The Island of the Dolls

*Since Blogger mucked up my last entry this is the re-do Version

Did that picture scare you?

If it did then the Island of Dolls may not be the place for you to go

But if your like then and it didn't scare you this sounds like a place to be added to the bucket list of things to do before you die.

From www.odditycenteral.com which is a awesome blog showcasing the offbeat and odd stuff in the world

Known as “La Isla de la Munecas”, by the Spanish, The Island of the Dolls is perhaps the creepiest tourist attraction in Mexico. Located within an extensive network of canals, south of Mexico City, the island is a place of mystery and superstition.

Almost every tree growing on the island is decorated with old, mutilated dolls that give anyone the feeling that they’re constantly being watched. The story behind the Island of the Dolls began when a hermit by the name of Don Julian Santana moved here. Although he was married he chose to live the last 50 years of his life alone.

Don Julian used to say he was haunted by the ghost of the little girl who had drowned in one of the canals around the island. Some say he used to fish the dolls from the water because he though they were real children, but the truth is he was collecting and placing them around his home as a shrine for the spirit that tormented him. At one point he even traded home grown fruit and vegetables for old dolls.

Ironically, in 2001 Don Julian Santana was found dead by his nephew, in the same canal that he said the little girl drowned in. Now his Island of the Dolls is one of the world’s weirdest tourist attractions. Some tourists who visited this place claim the dolls whisper and you must offer them a gift upon setting foot on the island, to appease their spirits.

Seriously thou this place sounds fascinating and awesome as well.

I would love to walk around looking at the dolls and taking pictures for my own personal scrapbook and to use as ideas for stories as well.

The one question I have is why hasn't anybody made a movie about this yet? Or have they and I am not aware of it?

This place is just screaming for a horror movie to be based on it..I can even give you a basic plot for the movie.

A group of tourist stumble upon a island completely covered in old dolls, the locals have numerous superstitions about this place but the tourists ignore the superstitions and offend the spirits inhabiting the island so the spirits possesses the bodies of the dolls to take their bloody revenge

Come on Charles Band this would be right down your ally, I know you know how to make a decent killer doll movie ( i have watched many of them you have made in the past (By the way Doll Graveyard very under rated in my opinion) Grab Jessica Morris (She is a must..she's hot and talented) and who ever else you want to cast and get this made a.s.a.p. I'll be the first in line to buy it with a sign saying Take my Money please..

Well that is going to do for now

So until the next time my Horrificly Spiffy Readers
